Episode Notes

In the fifth episode of Life in the Cloud, Kris Reddy and Diana Chen dive into a more in-depth discussion on cloud, discussing its origins, reviewing when companies should consider the cloud, and other overlooked factors surrounding it.

"What is the cloud?" Diana points out that most people are familiar with the term, having used Dropbox or Google Drive, but how is cloud different from what people think when they hear "cloud" mentioned?

Painting a picture of the physical cloud, Kris highlights expansive server rooms, often taking up an entire floor of an office building, with flickering LED lights and cables running everywhere. Factoring in the real estate, heating, and cooling costs, it only made sense to move these massive data storage sites off-premise.

Give this episode a listen to hear Kris's recommendations on when companies still using on-premise servers to store data should move over to the cloud, the benefits of doing so, and why hiring a third-party company like Tuple Technologies for data migration and cloud management makes sense. Plus, Kris and Diana go over one super important thing not to overlook with data storage.
